Thabo's Stars practicing soccer in front of the Union Building in Pretoria, South Africa - 27 May 2010

The Union of South Africa is the historic predecessor to the present-day state of South Africa. It came into being on 31 May 1910, today 100 years ago, with the unity of the previously separate colonies of the Cape, Natal, Transvaal and the Orange Free State. On 31 May 1961 South Africa become a republic. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_of_South_Africa

The attached photograph of children practising soccer were taken in the week of 24 May 2010 on a piece of grass opposite from the road that runs in front of the of the Union Building in Pretoria. The children are trained after hours by Thabo Tshoga who is a security guard and stayed nearby in Hamilton Street. The name of the club is Thabo's Stars and although they do not play in a league they compete with schoolteams in the area as well as in other areas e.g. Mamelodi. A very friendly Thabo said that the kids are from Sunnyside, Arcadia and Central Pretoria.
